Translational Research Incubator (TRI) Opens in UI Medical Labs

TRI is a UI technology + business incubator for rapidly developing, innovation-based biomedical and life-science startup companies based on UI research.  These new ventures are focused on preparing their science and business for commercial investment. The Office of the Vice-President for Research, the UIRF, and UIVentures assist and mentor each startup throughout their tenure at TRI. Ventures are expected to graduate within one year with a strong management team, a realistic business model, and initial capital investment.

TRI is the latest piece of an ecosystem developed by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development to protect, enhance, and advance intellectual property generated by University of Iowa researchers through the UI Research Foundation, UI Ventures, and the UI Research Park. TRI and its dry-lab companion, ProtoStudios, are part of a unique startup accelerator strategy that provides researchers with early-stage dedicated space and individualized scientific, services, and business support.

The close proximity of the companies will encourage a collaborative and supportive environment Located within the medical complex, TRI supports collaboration across other research disciplines
